This book in set in a world that is exactly like medieval Europe (minus the magic of course). With one big difference. According to their religion, customs, and way of life, women are fundamentally equal to men. From this perspective, an epic story is written, in which the female characters navigate throughout a society with no pre-conceived sexist notions. This story includes rape and abuse and approaches it from a very realistic, human angle. There are several main female characters and some male ones who seem to be feminist themselves. There are just as many female side characters as male, and they are all equally fleshed-out. The main narrative centers around one girls search to discover who she is. Truly, this series is a breath of fresh air.
